We sit down with HomeGround Real Estate property manager Belinda McCallum to learn a bit more about her life both inside and outside of work.
Belinda came to HomeGround Real Estate after 11 months of maternity leave. Before having Benson she was the Housing Options Coordinator at HomeGround Services, an organisation that Belinda was initially attracted to because of its social conscience.
Years ago, she became slightly dismayed by some aspects of real estate agency work. Belinda began looking for volunteer work that enabled her to give something back to the community. She describes it as seeking a way to “even-out my social conscience.” Whilst looking for volunteer work, a formal position in HomeGround Services’s Tenancy and Property team came up and after 10 years of being a real estate agent the job looked too good to be true.
Now, Belinda is the HomeGround Real Estate Trust Account Manager and she brings years of property management experience as well as a host of formal qualifications to the agency. With a Certificate IV in Property Services and Social Housing, Belinda also studied whilst on maternity leave and completed a graduate certificate in Housing Management and Policy. Having her experience supplemented by study is important to Belinda, who values the process of cementing her skills in this way.
Such knowledge has proved invaluable in Belinda’s new role which sees her as a “jack-of-all-trades” at the moment. With the Real Estate Agency in its infancy, Belinda has relished the problem solving skills that the new venture entails. Seeing the agency develop after months of planning whilst ensuring the finer details are attended to have been keeping her busy. More formally, Belinda provides administration support to the property managers and Andrea and has day-to-day dealings with the trust account.
When she’s not at work Belinda enjoys taking her son and dogs to the park or going for a cycle. She’s a keen reader and cook, admitting her cookbook selection is vast and expansive with only “one percent of the books ever put to use.” In the kitchen, Belinda prefers to go with her instinct rather than follow recipes and given her excellent work with the Real Estate Agency, it seems her instinct is well honed.
